LCWU
FM 96.6 Voice of LCWU is a campus radio of Lahore College For Women
University. The department of Mass Communication of Lahore College
For Women University was established in 1986 to impart
professional media education. Initially the department was imparting
journalism education only but to train young journalists the state of
the art equipment was required, so T.V and FM studios, advertising
and computer laboratories, non-linear editing and photographic
laboratories and MCR along with facility of OB van were established
under the project of HEC and this department was shifted to the new
building in 2008.
In 2009, 23rd of march, the
department of mass communication laid the foundation of a campus
radio with the vision of providing a significant platform to the
students of media by enhancing their skills and polishing their
talent. The facility of FM radio of the department is not only
training the aspiring journalists rather it is acting as an
information cell of university. With the development FM radio is
being managed by the students. It has emerged as the most vibrant
department of the university broadcasting news bulletins including
the news within the university as well as news regarding education
and development, programs, dramas, talk shows and interviews of
eminent personalities.
Initially the FM radio 96.6 produces
only one hour transmission but with the development of media studies
and equipment and with increased listener-ship its transmission was
extended to three hours daily. Now students of Mass Communication
department work as Radio jockey (RJ) and manage the transmission
themselves, they also work as editors, script writers, and news
casters under the supervision of professional teachers and
technicians. The campus radio of Lahore
College For Women University, FM 96.6 has all the advanced equipments
and training staff providing a professional environment to the
students. Students are now producing award winning documentaries for
radio, radio features, different segments regarding information,
entertainment and infotainment keeping in view a wide audience.
