With determination and ambitious nature of Dr. Anjum Zia, Head of
Mass Communication department of Lahore College For Women
University, Lahore, the development of this department and its
expansion has seen a rapid growth during the last few years. She was
determined to establish such strong bases of this department to
provide a wide range of facilities for the exposure of media students
that they can experience professionalism and polish their skills to
secure the name of their university in the mainstream media fields
and and she really seems to be achieving that aim.
When she initiated the process of development of this department,
she sought help of engineers and technicians to develop a full
fledged equipped department having TV studio for the production of
documentaries and projects of senior students to impart them the
knowledge of technicalities to use the professional equipment. A
radio station, FM 96.6 voice of LCWU, was established in 2009. since
than the radio station is serving the students to get themselves
aware of production and broadcasting of programs and news on radio.
It has a radio broadcasting room, where the live transmission of
three hours from 11am to 2pm is broad-casted. Students are engaged
in different activities of radio features and radio drama and also
the live segments. Now the students of Mass Communication department
are trained in the production of every kind of radio broadcast
programs.
This
year the campus radio has completed three years of success on 23rd
March. A ceremony of anniversary was held and different media
professionals and government officials were invited. The appreciation
received proved that the campus Radio of FM 96.6 has been successful
in its vision and mission. Rana Sana Ullah, Punjab Law
Minister has said that Journalism was the fourth pillar of state and
it educates and guides the general masses. Mass Communication
students were the future of this pillar of the state and it was
necessary to strengthen this institution for the development of
nation. At this occasion Rana Sana Ullah, chief guest of this
occasion, cut the cake to mark the 3rd anniversary celebrations of
Voice of LCWU, FM 96.6. along Vice Chancellor Dr. Sabiha Mansoor, Dr.
Anjum Zia, Deans, HODs, and students. He also donated 2 million
rupees for further development of this department.
The creative women folk of this
department have won several prizes and awards in different
competitions of documentaries, script, drama and photography for
their aesthetic expression through conventional and digital media.
